Auto Injuries and Whiplash

Auto Injuries

Auto accidents are unexpected unfortunate events that do not give you any warning alerts before they happen.  The after effects of auto accidents can be even worse in all the aspects of life, including stress, pain, injuries, and medical treatment, including the costs of treatment.  Not only this, many times it is also very difficult to diagnose the injury as the symptoms of pain appear months or years after the auto accidents.

Neck Pain

Chiropractic is considered to be one of the most suitable and effective treatments for injuries due to auto accidents.  In addition to the effectiveness of treatment, chiropractic is significantly more cost effective for everybody.

According to numerous studies carried out in various countries and by many groups of medical researchers and scholars, it has turned out that the success rate of chiropractic was much higher than other treatment methods.

Automobile or vehicular accidents can inflict a whiplash type injury where the head and neck are quickly thrust forward and then whipped backward causing disc compression, muscle stain, and vertebrae misalignment.  Even the slightest whiplash can be traumatic to the neck, especially if your head was turned to the right or left when the whiplash occurred.

Whiplash

People tend to associate whiplash with car accidents.  But did you know that whiplash can also be caused by sports injuries or work accidents?

When one suffers from whiplash after an automobile or other vehicular accident, they will have severe neck pain and possibly headaches.  Turning your head to the right and/or left may be difficult or painful and the range of motion of your neck will be reduced.

Neck Pain

Whiplash refers to a condition in which the joints, discs and muscles of the neck are jerked beyond their normal limits, resulting in them being overstretched or torn.  This most commonly occurs in motor vehicle accidents.  When someone in a car is hit from behind, their body is propelled forward immediately, while the head lingers for a second.  This delay means the neck muscles are overstretched.  To compensate for this discrepancy, the neck muscles quickly contract to bring the head forward, in line with the body.  Unfortunately, this tends to overcompensate, with the neck muscles being stretched further than necessary, as the body returns to its normal position.

Chiropractic care for acute whiplash involves gently restoring the natural motion of the spine and removing any associated pain.  Chiropractic adjustments relieve pressure from the spine, and returns muscles and discs to their natural position.  Soft tissue massage also reduces muscle inflammation and prevents scar tissue from forming.

Chiropractors do not usually recommend the use of neck braces following whiplash, as these can make the overstretched muscles weak, resulting in a longer and more difficult period of recovery.  Chiropractic is a faster and more effective option for the treatment of whiplash, reliving pain earlier and giving back free motion sooner.
